It’s the leg of a water flea (which isn’t a flea but a type of crustacean) photographed through a wide-field fluorescence microscope as it fluoresces blue light. The red indicates the presence of Vibrio bacteria, a type that can cause serious illness if one is exposed to it while swimming with an open cut or scrape or by eating raw shellfish.
